Wow…just wow.

Another reason to feel embarrassed for America and another reason to hate the military industrial complex and big business in general.

The US Giveth, North Carolina Taketh Away

15 12 2009

It is ironic that on the anniversary of the Bill of Rights, which guarantees the government will “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”,  that we have a story reporting on North Carolina’s law requiring a belief in God.

Who knew that state’s rights included the right to pass unconstitutionally bigoted  laws?

The First Brick In The Wall Separating Church And State…

15 12 2009

…was laid on this date in 1791 when the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution was ratified.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

— Article I (First Amendment), Bill of Rights

10 Year Old ACLU Attorney

25 11 2009

I don’t have too many ten year old heroes but Will Phillips fits the bill.  Kudos sir.  I think I will be starting a college fund for him now so he will be covered when he eventually goes to Harvard.  I smell a Supreme Court nomination in his future.  You read it here first.

Empty Catholic Anti-Abortion Rhetoric

25 11 2009

I was amused watching this because it’s one of the few times I’ve seen an interviewer force an anti-abortion advocate to really confront the empty rhetoric of their position.  I couldn’t believe it as I was listening and sensed exactly where Chris Matthews was going with his counterpoint following a common line of reasoning I myself have used in the past.  Where the Bishop is used to being able to chastise lawmakers from his high moral perch with impunity Matthews forced the Bishop to complete the thought process and define the precise ramifications of such “moralistic” platitudes.   Bla bla bla, enough from me, just watch this and be amazed.
