U.N. Bans Mocking Stupid Asshat Religions

27 03 2009

Yesterday the most ironic proposal to ever come from a “Human Rights Council” sought legal protection for religion from criticism.  That’s right, the U.N.’s top human-rights body is asking states to provide “protection against acts of hatred, discrimination, intimidation and coercion resulting from defamation of religions and incitement to religious hatred in general.”

Who would be so absurd to push for such a preposterously stupid resolution? The bombastically ridiculous Muslims of course.

“Defamation of religions is the cause that leads to incitement to hatred, discrimination and violence toward their followers,” Pakistan’s ambassador Zamir Akram said.

“It is important to deal with the cause, rather than with the effects alone,” he said.

Of course ambassador Akram couldn’t be bothered to actually follow the causal link all the way back to the real root cause…the asshats who follow and perpetuate the violent ignorance of dark age religions like Islam and Christianity. That would make way too much sense.

Muslim nations went on to whine absurdly that religions, and in particular their especially backward religion of Islam, must be shielded from criticism in the media and other areas of public life.  Apparently even a cartoon of their Prophet Muhammad would upset their astonishingly frail minds.

“Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism”

Oh Islam, you ARE so funny aren’t you?

How about this?  …Fuck No!

When all you religious fundamentalists and zealots come to your senses and cease to mutter to yourselves plead and pray to your invisible gods we will then, and only then, stop making fun of you. Until such time you are the crazies those of us in the reality based world will attempt to rescue from your self inflicted delusions.  We will sometimes use humor and ridicule in the effort to point out how profoundly absurd your beliefs are.  Sadly, until you wake up you will probably be offended, but if it makes you feel any better we are ultimately doing it for your own good.  (Well, and ours too)

We can always use a few more rational thinkers, so join us, the logic is fine.

…or not.

Super Jesus…..you always give me a good laugh. Can’t we just make all the stupid people go away?

The resolution should be going the other way. Banning religious practices
that are harmful, and keeping children from being indoctrinated.

I posted something I found on the Drudge Retort asking if that question:

Did the resolution actually pass? I hope not. This a huge problem now in France. They have a large muslim population that cries out that they should be allowed to marry off their under age daughters and should be allowed to do honor killings because it’s part of their religion.

Yes, how dare anyone insult or make fun of the absurd….. If I practice Islam I can become a zealot, car bombing innocent people to receive 20(?) virgins as I blow myself apart. If I become a bible thumping Christian fundamentalist I can burn witches, continue to persecute gays, and bomb abortion clinics. I see nothing wrong with that, how dare anyone make fun of these wonderful traditions.
I mean having a rational, open mind without superstition is a dangerous thing. We might actually learn something valuable. Who would want that? 😛

When these religions can equally respect views and beliefs that are not their own, then they will have earned the right to make such requests. Until that point such requests must be opposed in the strongest possible manner.

What makes you think that you are better than the fundementalists when you stoop to such ignorant bigotry. Not all Muslims are terrorists any more than all Americans are Bushite warmongers and Klansmen.

Which part are you offended by? The part where Muslims want special treatment and free speech curtailed so that people no longer have the right to mock their religion? Maybe it’s the part where I mock them for rioting over an “offensive” cartoon? Maybe I’m unfair pointing to the leadership that issues death threats against people who write down words they find offensive? Are my words offensive enough to merit such an disproportionate response?

If you think I was implying that all Muslims are terrorists then you are likely reading your own biases into my words. The only generalization I would readily confess to is that all religions requiring any degree of faith are delusional and advocate irrational thinking…and they are ridiculous and wrong. Since Muslims are the ones pushing this UN proposal then it is Muslims who can shove it up their collective ass. I’m not picking on Muslims because I have a special problem with them, if Christians were behind this then I would happily tell them to bend over and take it the way Bill O’Reilly likes it.

Yes some Muslems want to curail free speech just like some atheists want to burn down chuches but I am not going to tar all atheists or Muslems with the same brush.Furthermore when you make your sweeping generalizations of people you are doing the exact same thing as the fundementalists who also have no respect for other points of view.
Most Muslems like most people in general are just ordinary folks who want to live their lives in peace and have enough money to feed their families. Furthermore while some are fanatics so can be said for atheists and I don’t think you would apreciate being compared to Stalin and Pol Pot any more than a sane Muslem appreciates being compared to Ben Laden.
But what I think is the worse about this is that you don’t even realise the you
are actualy helping the wing nuts that you despise so much by helping them justify their holy war by demonising Muslems.Yes the riots over cartoons were wrong but it’s not like such things have never happened in the west.
I believe in Freedom of Speech and I am not attempting to take it away from you but I have the same right to tell you when I think you are being grossly unfair tp people who don’t deserve it.Furthermore I think if you listened a bit more to other points of view you would see that even people of faith might have something of value to contribute.

I would respectfully disagree. While I have respect for the rights of all people, and respect for each person individually on merit, I extend no respect for those points of view that are based on pure fiction and fantasy. I am not disrespecting the person, mind you, but their flawed ideas.

I would ask you to provide me even one example of an idea or something of value someone of faith could contribute to a conversation that is solely derived from their religious beliefs. Something that could not be derived from ethics or reason alone. I’m not trying to be mean or difficult here, I’m just pointing out that religion has no superior moral standing and therefore does not bring anything uniquely beneficial in and of itself. It does, however, provide justification for a great many things that are immoral and profoundly unethical.

So while I agree with you that people of faith may indeed have something of value to contribute, but that “something” is not inherently unique to their faith.

HEY!!! The Church of the Subgenius and the Discordian faith *are* asshat religions. We claim the honored title of Asshat for ourselves! The rest of them just need a dose of humor.
